Product & Application Engineer | Heat Pumps
📍Hybrid 💰 € 6,300 – € 7,200 🎯 Business Development
About BlueHeart Energy
BlueHeart Energy was founded in 2016 as a deep-tech company that has developed a new sustainable thermoacoustics technology to radically improve the performance of heat pumps, enabling them to evolve from being the best solution in the market to becoming the perfect solution. Our technology is a disruptive approach to generate heat and cold, with potential to revolutionize the whole industry.
With our so called 'Blue Heart' inside, heat pumps turn into affordable, silent and flexible devices, capable of working with wide temperature ranges suitable for both new and existing houses. Importantly, BlueHeart doesn’t require any refrigerants and doesn’t generate any CO2e emissions.
About the Role
This role sits at the intersection of technology, product, and field application. You are the primary technical authority on how the BlueHeart unit performs in the field. You know the operating envelope inside out, you can determine how a unit is performing at a customer site, and you translate what you learn externally into product decisions internally. You bridge R&D, Sales, and customers.
The position combines deep technical expertise with hands-on field engagement, with an estimated split of:
50% Technical focus — unit performance, system integration, testing and data analysis
25% Field & customer engagement — onboarding, commissioning, application support
25% Internal collaboration — R&D input, cross-functional alignment, knowledge sharing
What You’ll Do
Customer engagement & onboarding
Act as the technical authority during customer onboarding — understand customer needs and guide the application of BlueHeart technology in their environment
Support customer projects and co-development initiatives, managing expectations and driving successful adoption
Identify and explore new application opportunities and contribute to product-market fit
Represent BlueHeart at industry events and trade shows (e.g. Hannover Messe, ISH)
Application engineering & system integration
Define and own the connection schemes procedures and field sensor placement (Blue Heart-side and customer-side)
Specify and apply application-level components including ancillary equipment such as dry coolers
Lead and support field implementation and real-world customer deployments from engineering handover to go-live
Testing, data analysis & product development
Define application-level performance metrics, lead heat pump and application-level performance analysis and Define performance requirements and acceptance test criteria for customer projects
Execute data analysis and system performance evaluation across lab and field environments
Drive data-informed decision-making and feed findings into product direction and performance improvements
Identify application-level knowledge gaps and define structured approaches to close them
Translate technical findings into engineering requirements and support R&D in defining priorities and product features
Analyze unit & system performance
Develop and maintain knowledge of BH unit performance characteristics across the full operating space — COP, heating capacity, pressure drops, flow rate and power dependence
Determine whether a BH unit is performing nominally in the field and diagnose deviations
Know and apply the heat pump controller sequence of operations in real-world installation contexts
Internal collaboration & knowledge sharing
Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Sales, and Project teams to align application requirements, product capabilities, and business objectives
Train internal teams on application knowledge, system behavior, and field learnings
Report test results, performance analyses, and field findings in a structured way to support internal product decisions
What We’re Looking For
Technical Expertise
5-10 years of hands-on experience with heat pump or HVAC systems in a field, application, or product engineering context
Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer principles
Experience with data analysis and system performance evaluation — able to interpret test data and draw meaningful conclusions
Comfortable defining and applying a DfX mindset — optimizing systems under constraints such as cost, quality, and performance trade-offs
Application & system knowledge
Ability to read and define P&IDs and understand the practical aspects of heat pump system installation and integration
Experience with field sensors, hydraulic safety components, and expansion system design
Understanding of heat pump controller logic and sequence of operations
Able to define performance requirements and acceptance test procedures for thermal systems
Stakeholder & project management
Experience working directly with external customers at different organizational levels
Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set clear expectations, and drive to completion
Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and making pragmatic decisions with incomplete information
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills — able to work effectively with R&D, Sales, and Project teams
Additional Requirements
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; Dutch is a nice to have
Proactive, solution-oriented, and comfortable working in a dynamic scale-up environment
Willingness to travel to customer and partner sites (approx. 20–30% of time)
What We Offer
Salary range between € 6,300 – € 7,200 monthly gross depending on experience.
Opportunity to participate in the ESOP scheme, directly linked to company value creation and individual performance.
25 vacation days.
Hybrid work arrangement supporting autonomy and work–life balance.
Training opportunities to support in your personal and professional development with access to extensive training opportunities at your request.
Access to OpenUp, because we prioritize mental well-being.
