Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Lead pressure vessel and mechanical design, combining hands-on engineering with technical expertise to develop safe, innovative, and certifiable heat pump technology.
Job description
About BlueHeart Energy
Founded in 2016, BlueHeart Energy set out to solve one of the biggest challenges in energy: creating heating and cooling systems that are efficient, affordable, and sustainable.
After nearly a decade of research and development, we introduced the BlueHeart engine: a breakthrough thermoacoustic technology designed to deliver high performance with minimal energy use and zero carbon emissions across residential and industrial applications. Our work is driven by innovation, precision engineering, and a commitment to redefining heating and cooling for a sustainable world.
About the Role
As our Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take technical ownership of pressure-related mechanical design within our thermoacoustic heat pump technology, combining hands-on design work with technical leadership across our engineering teams.
You will design pressure vessels and mechanical components, guide decisions around materials and design codes, and ensure our solutions meet PED requirements. As the internal expert in this domain, you will work closely with component owners, designers, simulation engineers, and notified bodies, providing technical direction and challenging engineering assumptions where needed.
With our first prototype in production, you will join at a stage where your design decisions will directly influence how our technology evolves towards a robust, certifiable, and manufacturable product.
What You’ll Do
Design pressure vessels, pressure-related components, and mechanical systems for our thermoacoustic technology.
Take technical ownership of pressure-related design, guiding engineering decisions across component teams.
Perform engineering calculations covering materials, bolts, weld strength, pressure loads, and fatigue.
Apply PED, EN 13445, and relevant design codes and support the product certification process.
Guide material selection and design decisions, considering mechanical performance, corrosion, manufacturability, and compliance.
Critically review designs, calculations, and simulations and work with notified bodies to deliver robust and certifiable solutions.
What We’re Looking For
5+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development, ideally within complex industrial products or equipment.
Strong experience with pressure vessels, pressure equipment, or pressure-related mechanical design.
Good knowledge of PED, pressure equipment design codes, engineering calculations, and material selection; experience with EN 13445 is highly valued.
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and experience with PDM/PLM and geometrical tolerancing.
The technical depth and confidence to independently own engineering decisions, challenge assumptions, and guide other engineers.
Fluent English and comfortable working across disciplines in a fast-paced scale-up environment.
Nice to have: Experience with PV Elite, ANSYS, DfMA, FMEA, 8D, Six Sigma, corrosion engineering, HVAC, heat pumps, or energy systems is an advantage.
What We Offer
Salary range between € 5,500 – € 6,300 monthly gross depending on experience.
Opportunity to participate in the ESOP scheme, directly linked to company value creation and individual performance.
25 vacation days.
Hybrid work arrangement supporting autonomy and work–life balance.
Tailored learning and development opportunities to support your continued growth.
Access to OpenUp, because we prioritize mental well-being.
Participation in our pension scheme with employer contribution.
Commuting allowance, in line with our travel policy.
A strategic role in a purpose-driven scale-up, contributing to a greener world and shaping the future of sustainable thermal technology. Learn more about our mission here.

Interview tips

Get to know Blue Heart Energy
Before your interview, take some time to explore our career page, learn about our technology and products, and read our company values. You don’t need to become an expert: we’re interested in what caught your attention, why you’re considering BlueHeart Energy, and what you’re curious to learn more about.

Come prepared to talk about your experience
Our first conversation is usually focused on getting to know you: your career journey, motivation, experience, and what you’re looking for next. As you progress, interviews become more focused on the role and may include technical, functional, or leadership-related questions. Think about relevant examples from your experience that help us understand not only what you did, but how you approached it and what you learned.

Use clear, concrete examples
We often use the STARR method: Situation, Task, Action, Result and Reflection, to explore your experience. Before your interview, think of a few examples that demonstrate skills relevant to the role. Be specific about your own contribution, decisions and results. Communication is also part of what we assess, particularly for roles involving collaboration or leadership, so aim to keep your answers clear and structured.

Be curious and be yourself
An interview is a two-way conversation. Come with questions about the role, team, technology, challenges or anything else you genuinely want to understand. Our process may include both online interviews via Microsoft Teams and an onsite interview, giving you the opportunity to meet people you could be working with and experience BlueHeart Energy firsthand. Prepare well, but don’t rehearse a version of yourself, we want to meet you.
